Why Wait? Apply To Begin Medical School This Summer!

Getting into medical school and becoming a doctor is a dream for many. Being a physician uniquely allows you to combine your passion for science with your desire to directly help others. So if you are ready to turn your dream into a reality, it’s not too late to get started. At the Medical School for International Health (MSIH), admission is on a rolling basis and we are currently accepting applications for the entering class of 2022.

Ready to apply? Here is what you need to know: MSIH takes a holistic approach to the admission process, and while academic merit is very important, other factors are important as well. Watch this video to learn more about the MSIH admission process.

Academics: Collectively, GPA and MCAT score represent your academic record. With that said, the numbers alone do not tell the whole story. Science GPA, MCAT breakdown, grade trends, strength of coursework, and so forth are all taken in consideration. If you have already taken the MCAT and are satisfied with your score, great! If not, you can still take the MCAT by April and apply to MSIH for the entering class of 2022. In this case, we suggest your submit your application and all accompanying materials in the meantime, so that once your MCAT score is released, your application will be complete and can be reviewed promptly.

Extracurriculars: How do you spend your time outside the classroom? What are you passionate about? What exposure have you had to the medical field? Are you committed to service? What research have you been involved with? What is your leadership potential? Medicine is a career of service, and at MSIH students work with many underserved populations, so a commitment to service and volunteerism are important attributes we look for in the admissions process. When considering how to spend your time outside of the classroom, think about where your passions lie, and what type of impact you want to make in your community or in the field of medicine.

Qualities: We are not simply looking for applicants who have checked all the right boxes with regard to academics and activities. Rather, we want to admit students who have demonstrated certain qualities, such as compassion, ethical responsibility, dependability, a love of learning, teamwork, cultural competency, critical thinking, adaptability, and so forth. Essays, letters of recommendations and interviews are some of the ways in which these qualities are assessed.
