Zara Szeftel, M.D. (2015)

Zara Szeftel, M.D., is a child and adolescent psychiatrist in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in the University of California, San Francisco Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Dr. Szeftel provides clinical care in the outpatient clinics at Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.

Dr. Szeftel has been providing telepsychiatry consultation to primary care doctors in rural California prior to the pandemic, expanding access to care for children and adults with developmental disabilities. More recently, she has been involved with the UCSF Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Portal, a child psychiatry access program which provides support for primary care doctors in northern California trying to meet the mental health needs of children with limited access.

Dr. Szeftel completed her bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, and adult psychiatry residency training at the University of California, San Diego, and child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Szeftel earned her doctorate in medicine from MSIH in 2015.
