MSIH Graduates of 2021- Where Are They Now?

On May 23, 2021, MSIH welcomed the 20th cohort to the Alumni Association as the Class of 2021 received their MD degrees.

Following graduation festivities, our newly-minted doctors headed off to begin their intern year of residency at medical centers throughout the US and Israel, including the Mayo Clinic, the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, Hackensack University Medical Center,  Maimonides Medical Center, the University of Maryland Medical Center, LSU School of Medicine, and other medical institutions.

As they adjust to their new lives as medical residents, we checked in to see where they are now and what they’ve learned so far.

Alumnus Jonathan Abres (’21) is a resident in Family Medicine at the University of Rochester in New York. He is enjoying residency and his new home in Rochester. Paying it forward, Jonathan recently led an informative training session with the third year class on how to prepare a patient presentation. He also addressed questions regarding electives and residency preparation.

Dr. Abres enjoyed giving back and shared, “My journey through the desert and back to North America-helped me realize the depths that medicine can reach. My experiences in medical school taught me that global health is an approach to medicine and can be practiced everywhere. The rigorous medical education at Ben-Gurion University combined with their global medicine and cultural sensitivity training, will serve me well in any medical setting.”

Several students from the Class of 2021 chose to remain in Israel to practice medicine. Rachel Biesse will begin staj at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, Ichilov Hospital this October. Beginning in November, Yaakov Saibil will be a stajer at Kaplan Medical Center in Rehovot, Israel.

The Class of 2021 joins an esteemed group of 648 MSIH alumni who practice medicine in the US, Canada, Israel and around the world.
